Juri of Altered Thoughts interview by Alicks Wargood

Today I had the pleasure of having a quick Q&A with the absolutely amazing Juri of Altered Thoughts. They will be playing The Rex Theater with Agatha Haag and Gloom Squad this Saturday (May 24, 205). Her story is even more inspiring than her stage persona and talent... though neither of those things are anything to scoff at.  (DFZ) : So, introduce yourself a little. Where do you come from, how have you evolved, and what got you into music before joining Altered Thoughts? (Juri) : My name is Juri, I’m the lead singer of Altered Thoughts. I was raised in Detroit but my family is from Iraq. I was born in a refugee camp in Saudi Arabia in 1991 during desert storm. My parents were fleeing the war, as my dad was wanted by the Baathists for his role in the southern Shia uprising against Saddam Hussein. I came to this country at the age of 3. I was always in love with music, as far back as I can remember. The problem is, music is forbidden in Islam, so I had to really sneak around to l...

My life with the Thinky Flesh pt. 1 by Alicks Wargood

When I first got offered this opportunity I was told by many to make sure that I document the excursion. What I've learned (just 5 short days in) is that is a hard thing to do. One minute we are sitting in a Walmart parking lot taking up space wondering what to do do next... next minute we are barreling down the freeway in a stocked up van towards our next destination... moments later we are backstage at a radd venue chumming it up with local bands from whatever area we are in... a short time later I'm washing my feet in a venue bathroom before crashing on a makeshift bed comprised of 2 chairs pushed together in the middle of a punk bar. In just this first week on the road I have had the pleasure of hearing about 8 to 10 kick ass local (and touring) bands as well as meet some of the most interesting people. From drifters without a place to sleep to fancy home owners willing to lend us their couches for the night we have made friends all across the board.     I don't...

Klep - Chatter In The Skull album review by Alicks Wargood

You may know this man from his tenure with the absolutely immortal Bio Killaz or as the co-owner of the iconic Shattered Dreams Entertainment. On March 7 (2025) we were blessed with yet another flawless solo album from the chaotic mind of the one and only Klep Amphetamine.    I had the absolute pleasure of previewing the album before release to build my thoughts on this review. Through taking care of Agatha Haag, O Odious Ones, and booking The Rex Theatre tight with shows I had a slight delay in my work... but here it is... the official Dosed Fanzine review of the new album from the man himself "Chatter In The Skull" by Alicks Wargood. 1 : Brain Spasm (An Introduction To The Chatter)    The first track is a very fitting intro to the whole album concept. A concept that many of us can relate to on a personal level. We all experience negative thoughts and emotions provoked by nothing more than simply living. Thoughts of self harm, violence, hatred, suicide, and...

Carrie Nation & The Speakeasy band review by Alicks Wargood

If you have been to an Agatha Haag show in the last year or so you may have heard the name of a band mentioned right before their rendition of a song called "Thinkin Bout Lyin'". That name would be "Carrie Nation & The Speakeasy", a Witchita, KS based high octane 'brass grass' band that first caught my attention around 2016 after my not-so-subtle cannonball plunge into folk punk and its variety of culture and styles applied. It was 6 years after they had released their absolute masterpiece (debut) self-titled album. With songs like "Mamma's Little Baby", "Drunkle", "Stop Believing", and "Thinkin Bout Lyin'" I was hooked from the second I heard their conpositions, let alone the very Tom Waits-esk vocal style that I, so openly, adore.    They have 4 official studio releases all together (that I'm aware of). The aformentioned self-titled album (2010), Hatchetations (2013), Gnosis (2018), and their l...

Mouth Sown Shut - A Trip Down Memory Lane by Alick Wargood

After writing about a few things for Dosed I decided to write about something a little closer to my heart. Something that shaped me into the musician and person that I am today. What seems like 2 lives ago sits a 3rd previous life that I had no idea would become the vague memory that it is today.    I found electronic music very early on. I had always been a Mortal Kombat fan so (of course) when I was 8 years old and the OG movie was released I HAD to see it. One night staying at my Grandparents house they rented it and for the very first time I heard the sounds of The Immortals, Bile, KMFDM, Psychosonik, and MANY more.    Though I had found something that I liked I didn't really "understand" it. It was there... but I was still in the primordial stage of classic rock, hair metal, oldies... the typical "I listen to what my parents listen to" era. So, thinking about anything that wasn't simply guitars, drums, bass, and a keyboard didn't have a very...

Black Moon Cult introductory interview by Alicks Wargood

Last week we here at Dosed had the opportunity to talk shop with a band yall ain't ready for. From their transcendental guitar work, scale driven bass work, larger than life rhythm, and all the way to their psychedelic inspired lyricism they are certain to turn every head in every room that they fill with sound. We also got to spend a couple of evenings with them the last 2 nights and I can speak for the whole crew when I say... "we're gonna need some more Black Moon Cult as soon as possible." Enjoy the very short-hand version of their incredible story. Q -1 : What is black doomba records, where is it located, how did you get hooked up with them and what does your signing with them entail? A - 1 : Black Doomba Records is an Independent Record Label based in Atlanta, GA that specializes in Heavy Psych/Stoner Rock/Doom Metal releases! After the release of our debut single "Supernova" last year on TeePee records, we were in search of a full-term record deal f...

Beatbox Jake Interview Sept. 2024 by Alicks Wargood

We here at Dosed had the opportunity to sit down with a man who has skyrocketed in the last couple of years. He is a beatboxer at the heart and soul ... but an absolute shredder on the guitar as well. He has coined his very own genre of music called "beatbox metal". With many influences, a sound as tight as dolphin ass, and a stacked schedule we were very privileged to have some of his time to talk about his very unique craft. Q - 1 : Ok, well... first and foremost, introduce yourself and tell us about Shattered Dreams. Specifically how you and the killaz got acquainted. A : I'm Beatbox Jake.  I am a guitarist and beatboxer and a founding member of Shattered Dreams Entertainment.  I actually met Bio Killaz and the whole Hillsdale scene by a fluke.  Some woman I've never heard of messaged me out of nowhere one day asking if I wanted to play a show in Hillsdale (which I also had never heard of).  I googled it and was pretty floored.  I had never performed an hou...
